May Day!

Long time no blog! I just posted up some pictures from a few weekends ago when we went to Milton Keynes and some from just last week when we happened to catch some Morris dancers on Cornmarket Street. They were performing as part of Oxford's Folk Festival.

Spring had slowly been showing itself. The weather is getting warmer, the flowers are blooming...and then there was May Day. May Day mayhem is what it should be called (at least in Oxford). The tradition is for the University students attend balls and stay out all night, then go out for breakfast in the morning. A choir sings from the top of the Magdalen College Tower, whilst students attempt to jump in the 5 foot deep canal off the Magdalen Bridge. On account of safety (to spare the many broken legs of students) they close off the bridge. Apparently, no other place celebrates May Day quite like Oxford, which made for an interesting night and following day. Still, I was disappointed that we missed out on any May Pole dancing...

Anyhow, I need to head off to bed because tomorrow morning we are having our first visitors to Oxford! My sister and her friend Sara are coming to stay with us for 9 days! AND, on the 7th we are going to Paris for 3 days! So check back in about a week or so! There are gonna be a lot of pictures and stories posted to make up for my slacking!
