Sunday in the Park

Twelve years ago today I went on a date. He took me out for burgers and a movie in his Mom's blue Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais. For a first date there was seldom an awkward moment, he made me comfortable, he made me laugh- and twelve years later, he still does.

In celebration, Saturday was spent spending. Ben finally broke down and bought a used PlayStation and Guitar Hero. He has been missing it a lot since we couldn't bring it with us. Luckily, we found the game console for £15 less than we'd expected and the game £20 cheaper as well! So of course it was up to me to make up the difference with some new shoes and jacket. We also went out to Las Iguanas, the only Latin food around (next to the Chipotle rip-off Mission Burrito) for dinner and then to Borders for tea and some reading.

Today, the actual day of our anniversary, we didn't do much, just all the things that make for a good Sunday. We woke up and took a walk through University Park, feeding the ducks on our way. Then we walked into town to the Kings Arms for lunch. Apparently, the place has been open since 1607. It is slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite pubs for lunch. They have an amazing vegetable lasagna. Ben likes the chili and cheese nachos. And for pudding (a.k.a dessert) we shared deep dish apple pie drenched in cream. Their selection of lagers is so-so, the food is the main attraction for us.

After our leisurely lunch we walked through the heart of the University to the Oxford Botanical Gardens and found JRR Tolkien favorite tree. Since Ben is such a fan we did a little photo effect.

Lastly, on our way to do the grocery shopping, we meandered through Christ Church Meadow (see the pictures here).

The day was really beautiful. It was the warmest we've had in weeks and the sunniest. England's anniversary gift to us...a sunny day!
