There's No Place Like Online @ Home

This is my first posting from the comfort of our own home! We finally have internet! Hurray! We'll just stay jolly and ignore the fact that they forgot to install TV and telephone like we ordered with that...

This weekend was a little less eventful and we stuck close to home. Between saving up for the trip home and for Christmas, we didn't have much of a choice. We took a stroll trough the University Park and feed the birds on Saturday morning. They are getting much more aggressive now that it is getting colder. One of the ducks kept tugging on our pants leg if we were not feeding her, I took some pictures of our feathered friends for you all to see. Then on our way to the city centre it began to rain pretty hard, the amazing things was that the sun was still out, bright as can be, and all that rain was the work of one little raincloud. I also took some cool black and white pictures there. Then we stumbled upon the Christmas Festival on Broad Street, where several booths of foods, arts and crafts set up with all sorts of holiday things.

Sunday, there was an Italian Food Market just around the corner on Little Claredon Street. There we got some of the most delicious nougat! Soft, sweet, and nutty...like me!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! As many of you know there is no Thanksgiving here and trying to explain it to everyone here was interesting. We give thanks and eat a lot basically because the Native Americans (that the early Americans practically killed off and stuck on crappy reservations) made the Pilgrims a big feast back in the day and we've been doing it ever since...for how much I love Thanksgiving, I have learned you just can't make it sound good. Ben is requesting "Welcome Home" spelled out in pumpkin pies viewable from the airplane when we get home- poor fella had to go through November 22nd without a single piece of pumpkin pie (they don't have it here).

As for the news around here, England lost to Croatia to qualify for the Euro Cup 2008 Football Tournament, also today several Oxford students (some of our cafe regulars as well) are protesting the University's decision to allow the BNP (British National Party) to have "free-speech debate". It's not hard to see why people are upset once you know who the BNP is. Click the link to read about the conflict and BNP if you are interested.

That's it for now! Check out more pictures from our walk etc. at:

I love that B&W picture you have on this blog. Weird having to explain the holiday huh! Well at least you have the internet at home now. Ben might have been disappointed that there was no Pumpkin pie but he will at least be happy to know the Bears beat the Broncos!!! It was a tie game at the end and Robbie Gould made our winning point!
